Pre-certification design review, PGN reservation prep, test-house liaison, and post-certification documentation for marine electronics manufacturers. The cert process eats months of calendar time when you do it cold; a guide who knows the current procedures cuts that in half. Verilog and VHDL for Xilinx and Intel parts. FPGA bring-up, custom IP integration, AXI / Avalon bus glue, simulation-first verification with Cocotb or SystemVerilog. When the MCU runs out of headroom or the timing budget gets serious, the work moves to fabric.
A short paid engagement (typically 4–8 hours) where I read your existing code, schematics, and constraints, and write back a one-page scope with deliverables, risks, and a fixed quote for the full project. No surprises after this.
50% deposit on signing, 25% at the agreed mid-project milestone, 25% on delivery. You know the total before work starts. Out-of-scope changes get a written change order, not a surprise invoice.
For ongoing work where the scope is genuinely unknown — bring-up support, intermittent reviews, on-call firmware. Billed weekly against a capped retainer; you see the hours before they're invoiced.
Code with comments where comments earn their keep, a README your next engineer can read cold, and a short bench-test report so your team can reproduce every claim I made. NDA-friendly throughout.
